Leading Zero

The raw data is on a spreadsheet. When I import the data, the subject’s leading zeros are gone. i.e. subject 00123 turns to 123.

Without making changes to the spreadsheet prior to importing the data, is it possible to have leading zeros for subject number?

I have tried using data wizard and everytime I use a transformation to concatenate, replace or substitute , it would by default convert the number to an integer.

Hi CTUK, the reason it is happening is that Phoenix is looking at this data as a number string and then assigns that column to be numeric. If this is done then Phoenix stores it in the most efficient way which results in leading zeros being dropped. You should be able on import to force it on import to recognise that column as text but looking at the tab ‘column_options’, make sure you do this before clicking ‘finish and open’. Simon. PS once in Phoenix you can also use Column Properties in a data wizard to change the column type (and/or name)

Hi Simon, Thank you very much for your response. I forgot to mention I am using Phoenix 6.3 and that the “column option” tab is not shown.

Hi CTUK, apologies for the previous spam reply to your post. I don’t know if you planned your upgrade yet but if not hopefully you saw this notificaion that the next release, Phoenix 8.0 will be launched in October.
