Poll on User Interface display issues

We have received some sporadic reports that Phoenix User Interface sometimes display incorrectly (i.e., radio buttons on top of each other and maybe even non-visible options). We have not been able to reproduce these issues at Pharsight and we would like to reach to the community and especially to those using different OS than English to see if this problem has been observed. If you have seen this type of problem in 32-bit systems please let us know: 1. Operating System 2. Phoenix Version 3. Screenshots if possible 4. Screen resolution settings you observe issues on, and also note any settings that DO work OK on your system. Please note that the current version of Phoenix is not supported in 64-bit. We will support Windows 7 64-bit (although running on 32-bit) in the next release. Simon. PS this thread was initiated to follow up on Helmut’s post on another thread; (Certara | Drug Development Solutions), where he reports issues with a larger screen resolution (1600×1200) than our minimum recommendations. 1600x1200 is that used by our developers with no issues and I personally have used it on a netbook with no major UI issues.

Hi Simon! I think that it would be useful to add 2 points to the poll (see my example below) 1. Operating System: XP Pro SP3 all patches (32 bit) 2. Phoenix Versions: 6 beta, 6.0, 6.1 3. Screenshots (already posted) 4. Screen resolution settings: 1600×1200 (native on 20"), 1280×1024 (native on 17") 5. Graphics card: NVIDA Quadro FX 1300 (PHX 6 beta, 6.0, 6.1), NVIDIA Quadro FX 4400 (PHX 6.1) 6. Windows localization: German Remark: If I change the resolution of my secondary display from 1280×1024 to 1024×768 (which is working on my notebook’s native resolution), the problem persists.

Simon, Since installing Phoenix WNL I have had issues with the display on all workstations loaded (2 nodes and 1 float). Changing the resolution, or display settings have not corrected the issue, nor has upgrading to the latest version of Phoenix fixed it. Here are the parameters for my laptop: 1. Opperating system: XP 2002 (SP3) 2. Phoenix Version: 6.1 3. Screenshot (see attached) 4. Screen Resolution settings: 1280 X 1024 (naitve) Has there been any resolution to this issue yet? //Sara

Hi Sara, Please can you attach or email me your screenshot and also confirm your version of Windows - US English I assume. thanks, Simon.

Hi Sarah, Is this a 32- or 64-bit machine? I don’t think that should necessarily make a difference because when I spoke with the developer he wondered if you had an unusual theme. It doesn’t look like a layout issue just that the text is bigger than it should be. The font it should be using is Microsoft Sans Serif: 8.25. In the screenshot it looks much bigger than that. Can you let us know if some version of the fonts on your machine are bigger than other users in your group, or if you have some other setting on her machine that might be increasing the font size ? (same for you Helmut). Thanks, Simon.

Hi Simon! My setting are: Windows and buttons: Windows - classical Fontsize: Normal

I’m on a 32 bit machine and my display is Windows XP default. For some of the model options I am able to remedy the squished text by opening the function in an orphan window (selecting it from the object browser), however this work around doesn’t work for all all of the affected windows. My colleauge also has the same display issue, her machine is set up identically to mine. -Sara

One of the developers asked if you could take a screen shot of Word or some other document using the font “Microsoft Sans Serif: 8.25.”. Probably it would be most useful to have a PHX window with the prob side by side. Also if you have access to machines that work, you could copy the font from that machine (Microsoft San serif). Simon.

I’m only able to get font sizes as whole numbers, so Microsoft Sans Serif 8 is the best I can do. Hopefully the screenshot has successfuly attached this time… As for a working machine, all of the computers actively running Phoenix WNL at our sight have the user interface display issue. -Sara

Hi Simon!
One of the developers asked […] using the font “Microsoft Sans Serif: 8.25.”
As Sara already mentioned - TTFs scale only in integers or ½s. Does this guy mean 8.5?
Also if you have access to machines that work, you could copy the font from that machine (Microsoft San serif).
Only if theOS and SP is the same. See Micro$oft typography: v1.33 (XP), v1.41 (XP SP2), v5.00 (Vista/Win 7). Note: On my Vista-Notebook (13", 1024×768 native, 96dpi) I had no problems with PHX. The scheme was Windows-Standard (system font Tahoma). Changing to Windows-classical (like on the XP machine) with system font MSS 8 (not 8.5) worked as well. I will check the version of MSS on my XP machine next and/or change to Tahoma.
