Conditional exclusion

Let’s say you have a study with 1…i subjects and 1…j periods. Subject X vomited immediately after administration in period Y resulting in no measurable concentrations. I found it always difficult to exclude such values. Selection (Exclude) is error-prone and bad to document. But you can misuse a Custom Inclusion: Let’s say you want to exclude Period 2 of Subject 12. Data wizard, add filter, Custom (Include), type (Subject <> 12) or (Period <> 2) Note the parentheses. Result: Data of Subject 12’s second period are excluded.

Morning Helmut, had been wanting to respond to this for a while as I wasn’t sure if this was clear to other readers. If you use that instruction then Sub 12, P2 is the ONLY included result but all other rows are in the other sheet; “Filtered Rows” and could be used for subsequent operations

Hi Simon, The filter should be (Subject <> 12) or (Period <> 2), not (Subject = 12) and (Period = 2). See attached screenshot. Note that after execution the ‘Specify Filter’ section changes from ‘• Custom (Include)’ to ’ • Built In’. Of course your method works as well, but working with Secondary Results rather the Final Results might be confusing for novices. P.S.: Please delete my first transparent PNG.
